Dont look back

September 19, 2011 by guest

This story happens a long time ago. At that time, i was only a teenager. It happened so long ago yet it feels like just yesterday. Now that i've married and have children, this is the story that i will keep telling them. Now that they are old, this is the story that i will share to all.

I live in a kampung with my family. There's my father, mother and 4 other siblings. Since we are poor, i have to sacrifice my education in order to serve food on the table. I do all kind of job. From cleaning of houses to sewing.

From all this job, this story happens when i was a cook at a nearby stall. Like i said, i was young but my cooking was good so the owner had let me handle the stall all by myself. (It was those type of stall where you have to push the cart from 1 place to another.) It was getting late and i was waiting for my father to fetch me. I was pushing the cart along side with another aunt. I was struggle with the cart since we are pushing uphill. The aunt was already pushing ahead of me since she's already use to it when suddenly i feel shiver running down my back. Since i was struggling, i did not mind the feeling but continue with the pushing.

A short step later, i heard laughter. I was dumbfound. I cant move. I look over to the aunt who was pushing beside me but she seems to sense nothing. I have no idea what strick me but i muster the courage to turn around. To my shock, i saw the lady standing atop the tree branch. All white with hair as long as eternity. She laugh again. I turn my head to call out for the aunt but she was already ahead and was heading towards the alley to her home. I felt her presence beside me. Floating by while turning her head facing me. I cant move and i cant talk let alone shout. She was standing in front of me now laughing ever so loudly. I lift my right hand with the help of my left hand and slowly raise my hand. I use my finger to poke my mouth. Trying to let the voice and screaming inside my head out. I chant a ritual in the hope of the ghost going away. Ahead, i saw my father cycling towards me. The ghost is still infront of me, floating around. I continue my chanting but my father seems to be stuck at the same position. He was cycling but not moving ahead. I close my eyes and chant even louder. To my relieve, the ghost disappear and my father saw standing infront of me shaking my body. I got on the bike and he cycle us home.

On the way home, i told him what i saw. He scolded me instead. While shaking his head, he said" you shouldnt have turn around. Remember what i say, dont turn around". Till this day and till the day that my father passaway, i will always remember his advise.

well, pretty much it's

well, pretty much it's alright to turn around if you don't sense anything out of the ordinary. But once you get the feeling "someone" other than a living person is behind you, that rule is broken and, well, don't turn around.

Note: use something that reflects if you want to look behind you.
